Description

Lophocereus schottii monstruosa

Thrives best in full sun, needing several hours of bright, direct light daily. It can tolerate partial shade but may grow leggy if light is insufficient.

Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings, as this cactus is highly drought-tolerant and susceptible to root rot if overwatered.

During the growing season (spring and summer), water every 1–2 weeks, depending on conditions. In fall and winter, reduce watering to once a month or less.

After repotting or propagating from cuttings, wait at least a week before watering to prevent rot.

Requires well-draining, sandy, or gravelly soil-cactus or succulent potting mix is ideal.

Prefers warm, arid conditions and is not frost-tolerant.

Feed monthly during the active growing season (spring and summer) with a diluted cactus fertilizer.

Repot every 2–3 years in spring, or when roots become cramped. Use fresh cactus soil each time.

Propagate by stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to callus for 1–2 weeks before planting in dry, well-draining soil.

Do not water cuttings until roots have formed (usually after several weeks).

Watch for mealybugs, scale, and aphids. Treat infestations promptly with appropriate insecticides or by removing pests manually.
