Description
Pachypodium eburneum is a rare, slow-growing caudiciform succulent native to central Madagascar.
Light
Needs abundant, bright, and direct sunlight. Place it less than 1 ft from a south-facing window indoors, or outdoors in full sun to partial shade.
Avoid prolonged exposure to the hottest midday sun, which can cause leaf or stem burns. Provide some shade during peak summer heat if outdoors.
Insufficient light will cause weak, elongated growth and poor health.
Temperature
Ideal temperatures are 20–30° during the day, and not below 12°C at night in the summer.
Avoid temperatures below 12°C in winter.
During winter dormancy, keep it dry and above 12°C.
Watering
Water sparingly. Allow the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot.
During the growing season (spring to autumn), water thoroughly but infrequently—typically every 7–10 days in spring/autumn, and every 3–5 days in summer, adjusting for pot size and environment.
In winter, reduce watering to a minimum as the plant goes dormant and may lose its leaves.
Soil
Requires very well-draining soil. Use a cactus or succulent mix, ideally amended with pumice, perlite, or coarse sand.
